About this Project:
When the clients purchased this 2,800 sq. ft. 1980s home, they envisioned a full-on renovation before moving in. A reno to enhance function, elevate flow, and reflect the personality and lifestyle of a family who loves to host, gather, and connect with nature. The renovation involved bold spatial changes, refined detailing, increased storage and a design narrative that layers Japandi simplicity with subtle mid-century influences, grounded by organic materials that bring warmth, texture, and timeless character to the home.
On the main floor, the most impactful change was swapping the kitchen and dining areas to create a stronger connection to the living room. This new arrangement makes entertaining effortless; guests can flow easily between spaces, while the homeowners enjoy open sightlines and even catch a show on the TV while cooking. A charming breakfast nook was also added, bringing everyday function with a casual spot for family meals, homework sessions, or children’s play.
Another significant transformation came from relocating the garage entry, which allowed the primary bedroom ensuite & closet to expand and integrate the existing laundry chute seamlessly into custom millwork. To make this possible, the powder room was moved entirely to a new location, freeing up space for a more functional layout. A concealed storage unit with a hidden door was also introduced, disguising the garage entry and preserving a polished, formal feel in the foyer, while discreetly tucking away a casual drop zone and additional storage for a small make/shift mud room.
The primary ensuite was reconfigured, designed for both comfort and practicality. A spacious shower anchors the space, complete with his-and-hers niches and a built-in bench—blending thoughtful functionality with a spa-like sense of calm. A double vanity with custom-built medicine cabinets provides discreet storage for smaller toiletries, keeping the space uncluttered while maintaining a sleek, refined aesthetic.
The lower level underwent an equally thoughtful redesign, introducing a newly reimagined office, dedicated storage room, home gym with wine storage area, and overall added storage. The rec room was transformed with a striking centerpiece, featuring an asymmetrical two-sided gas fireplace thoughtfully paired with integrated storage and a large TV. To enhance light and connectivity, the original windows were removed and replaced with a large glass bypass door, providing direct access to a spacious patio surrounded by forest. This dynamic design merges practicality with visual drama, creating a cozy yet sophisticated hub where family and friends can gather, relax, and watch the game.
Throughout the home, the design language emphasizes clean lines, natural textures, and subtle organic detais. Inspired by Japandi aesthetics with quiet mid-century undertones, the interiors feel serene yet inviting—timelessly modern while perfectly tailored to the rhythms of family life and entertaining.
